A taster video of Christmas Lullaby - more to follow.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5rIPu3FhQE On a blustery night midway through Storm Darragh, the brave audience and choir made their way to St Lawrence Church where the roof tiles were flapping and doors banging. But inside the atmosphere was warm and convivial, helped by the wafting aroma of mulled wine, the uplifting voices of the choir and appreciative applause from the audience. In the first half excerpts of Messiah were put into context by Paul Kybird the Narrator and accompanied by the amazingly skillful Watling Quartet and John Bickerdike on trumpet, soprano and tenor soloists from the choir and David Johnston singing the bass solo. The highlight was the Hallelujah Chorus when the audience were invited to stand and join in - many had even brought their own scores as fellow singers and much gusto was put into the resounding sound filling the church. After refreshments and time for a catch-up, the second half included traditional audience carols, more modern pieces including Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer in swing style and a rousing We wish you a Merry Christmas to end the evening. We are so grateful to all of you for coming - the church was packed - and also to everyone who helped to put on the concert, especially our inspirational MD Helen Swift. |

Easter Concert 23rd March 2024
Saturday arrived as a blustery day with squalls and showers, as if the weather were already setting the atmosphere for the tumultuous concert to come! Widely regarded as one of the greatest oratorios of the Romantic era, this dramatic and uplifting piece, sung in English and featuring stirring choruses, is based on the life of the prophet Elijah. Full of earthquakes, hurricanes, fiery chariots, wicked queens and holy visions this musical adventure was brought to life under the guidance of our musical director Helen Swift, with the support of local orchestra Trinity Camerata and professional soloists Edward Price, Hannah Fraser-Mackenzie, Sian Menna, Dominic Bevan and also introducing 13 year old Freddie Baker as the Youth. We are very grateful to everyone who came along and also to all our helpers. Videos click here |
