On a cold night early in December 2023 the choir and musicians gathered in the atmospheric St Lawrence Church which had been turned into the night sky with glittering stars and moon, backlit by blue light for our star-themed concert.
A treat ensued - firstly the amazing Stella Natalis work by renown Karl Jenkins with its beautiful and varied 12 pieces ranging from the tricky Triangle song through poignant, moving lullabies to joyful celebration.
The second half was filled with traditional audience carols, new and familiar choir pieces including the parading of the Boar's Head on a platter whilst the lower voices welcomed it's arrival and the highlight (or should it be described as low-light) of the audience participation was This Little Light of Mine which started in complete darkness with the choir gently 'ooing', then joined by a single light and voice and gradually the throng swelled until the church was filled with voices and light; very moving.
Thanks go to Helen Swift our wonderful MD for always coming up with new ideas and encouraging us, Rowena Gibbons our talented accompanist, Steve Morris on clarinet, John Bikerdike and Steve Kitchen on trumpet, Wallace Ruby on percussion and Jon French on keyboard, together with all the people who work so hard to put on our concerts.
