Saturday 23rd March arrived as a blustery day with squalls and showers, as if the weather were already setting the atmosphere for the tumultuous concert to come.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest oratorios of the Romantic era, this dramatic and uplifting piece, sung in English and featuring stirring choruses, is based on the life of the prophet Elijah. Full of earthquakes, hurricanes, fiery chariots, wicked queens and holy visions this musical adventure was brought to life under the guidance of our musical director Helen Swift, with the support of local orchestra Trinity Camerata and professional soloists Edward Price, Hannah Fraser-Mackenzie, Sian Menna, Dominic Bevan and also introducing 13 year old Freddie Baker as the Youth. We are very grateful to everyone who came along and also to all our helpers. Videos here: |

We welcomed 79 singers to the Towcester Town Hall on a cold winter's day - what could be nicer than a joyful day of singing the great Elijah choruses. 27 visitors travelled from others choirs or just came along to share the joy of singing. MD Helen Swift was brilliant with her beautiful voice leading by example and her fabulous patient knack of getting the very best out of us all. The costumes and amazing display of pictures and text certainly helped to paint a picture of Elijah's story. Rowena Gibbons accompanied with her usual skill and humour.
Refreshments included many cups of tea/coffee plus some very tasty snacks which were soon polished off. It was also lovely to have some time to socialise with others.
Thank you to everyone who came along, and also to those who worked so hard to make it happen.
