Towcester Choral Society presents 'Christmas Starlight'.  Friday 18th and saturday 19th december 2015

Picture

Our Christmas concerts were taken by storm, and the feedback we have had is overwhelming and wonderful. We have started 2016 with such a buzz on how well the concert was taken by our audience. Our Concert celebrated 2015 as the International Year of Light, it was a a year of celebrations  on the impact that light has on science, technology, the arts, culture and everyday life. Our celebrations featured a narration by our very own astronomer.  Our music was a festive and magical celebration, with Christmas songs and Karl Jenkins 'Stella Natalis' which took the Christian message of 'peace and goodwill to mankind' while also looking at the sentiment via other cultures.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported us at our concerts and look forward to delighting you again with our singing and musicality at our Easter concert

Carols at stowe gardens - 5th December 2015

Towcester Choral Society was invited to attend to entertain the public over a weekend along with other local acts, we were performing on the afternoon of the 5th December. There was a large turnout from the choir and we were given 45 mins to entertain the public on a cold brisk afternoon at Stowe Gardens.

We sang some wonderful carols and even got some very young admirers who were singing along with us from their tables in the restaurant. We had a wonderful reception with lovely feedback and hopefully this will be something we are able to do year on year.

Summer concerts - Name That Tune, Town Hall, Towcester
Friday 26th and Saturday 27th June 2015

Breaking with tradition we performed on Friday and Saturday this year, Friday was a sell out and just a few tickets were available at the door for Saturdays performance.   We would usually publish some of the program but this year we wanted the audience to play along with a quiz and have some fun.  Will it be Cole Porter?  Or perhaps Cold Play?  The evening was filled with lots of fun and laughter with vaguer than vague introductions so as not to spoil the game.  How can you introduce each piece of music without giving the game away?  Our musical director, Helen Swift, managed the task to perfection and with great aplomb.  She also prepared the choir to a very high and harmonious standard.  One gentleman from the audience commented "you're better than the Military Wives" which comes as a shock to some of our Tenor & Bass gentlemen singers!  The program of 18 pieces included some 33 tunes and included lots of familiar tunes to sing along with.  Prizes went to the highest scores of 25 and 24, so well done to those winners.  The evening was helped along by Mike John our compare who entertained with wit and friendly banter and sweet treats and sangria were served at the interval.  Our thanks go to the many helpers front of house, back stage, catering and technical support, and to the choir members who do so much hard work in the planning and preparation before hand, without whom our concerts would be a little less cheery, Thank you. Easter concert - St. Lawrence Church, Towcester
Sunday, 29th March 2015

Our Easter concert this year included two magnificent and major works by two very well known composers.  Vivaldi's Gloria and Mozart's Coronation Mass in C.   These were preceded by Cantate Domino by Monteverdi which opened the evenings entertainment.  An appreciative audience of some 90+ people attended and gave glowing reports of all the performances.  The evening was embellished and enhanced by the addition of four pieces sung by St. Lawrence Church Choir and we were also joined and supported by Soprano - Hannah Nye; Alto - Morag Boyle; Tenor - Matthew Sandy; Bass - William Gee; Oboist - Cindy Sluka; and Bassoonist - Nick Epton; our regular pianist Rowena Gibbons, and her husband John Gibbons.  It was noted that in the history of the choir this performance included the largest ever number of voices (57) from Towcester Choral in its 115 year history.  The evening was conceived and conducted by our musical Director Helen Swift.
